Adam needed a Punchy 808 Bass sound that could be pitched up and down witch is why we decided to record my home made instrument the Pipeophone as it gives a low bass sound that with a bit of equalization and running though the sampler in Ableton would work well for Adams needs.
To record the Pipeophone we placed an AT2020 at the Bottom of exit hole about 5cm away, so we could capture the bulk of the sound come from the instrument, we also placed a second AT2020 at the middle of the instrument so we could capture the top sound and the vibration of the PVC pipe, this microphone was also placed 5cm away from the instrument. But by having two mics we started to hear phasing issues so we flipped the output of the second mic so the waves forms don't cancel each other.
