Today I worked on my second Demo to get the most trail time before going for the recording of me using it in a live mix. In the second demo I mixed live on the X32 the trail Evergreen by isec that had previously been performed in and recorded down as stems.
I first pushed play and listened the hole 7mins 50 seconds of the song to get the feel of the music and understand what style and feel it gives and after playing it i found that it a sad metal song with bass, lead guitar, distorted backing guitar and drums keeping the timing of the band i was the able to figure out what was on each audio channel by soloing them and listening to what the most prominent sound was on each channel then labelling them and colouring them and adding a picture to each corresponding label.
I then start with the rhythm guitar at the start they had a very clean sound to it so i added a bit of room reverb as it helped with power of what was being played i then added a vocal reverb to the singer as its gearly good practice to add a small amount of reverb to make the vocals sit on the top of the mix and make them power over everything mix as generally vocals don't want to be hidden by the rest of the band. After that i went though levelling all the instruments to make the mix still sound live but have a bit of everything without it being flat or too muddy. I then went through all the drums adding Compressors to welp with the odd spikes in audio and to help give the drum kit some dynamics. After having a crack at live mixing I found that just the simple changes can make a big difference.
